what is a share

What is a share house?

A share house is a winter seasonal rental. This means a number of people get together and share the costs of renting a house for a ski seaon. The person that leads the effort is the house manager. S/he takes the responsibility of finding a house, signing a lease, and getting the heat, light, telephone and cable t.v. service put in their name. Additionally, there is plowing that needs to be arranged and there is no trash service at the mountain, so that needs to be taken care of as well.

To recover the costs "shares" are sold. Each share gives you the right to use the house for a specific period of time, usually either every weekend (full share) or every other weekend (half-share). There are houses that sell quarter shares and even eighth shares, but managing that detail is a chore.
The specifics of how each house operate vary. For example, quite a few houses are for use during the weekend only to keep the costs of heating and lighting down; Some managers assign you to a specific bed and room and others don't (this means you don't know where you'll be sleeping until you get there); Some houses are a free for all that are reminiscent of high school/college party days. You have to look at each house and talk to each manager to understand what you're getting into.

A share in this ski-house is an easy, affordable way to go up-country. You will have access to a beautiful house from Killington open to close and returning shares get summer usage . Ski shares offer great value. It's easy to spend close to the cost of a ski house share on just one long weekend condo rental. With a share your bedroom always awaits you, so there's no need to hunt for sleeping arrangements.

There are no reservations to be made, you don't have to check in or check out, and most important (in my view) you don't have to take everything with you when you leave at the end of a weekend.

Your gear is stored conveniently for you, so you never need to pack/unpack. If you're on a budget you can cook all your meals at the house (in our well-equipped kitchen).

Never again wait for a restaurant table nor pay high prices for what is usually average food. Bring your own freshly packed lunch to the slopes and eat better for far less than expensive mountain food.

The share house social scene at Killington is excellent. Share houses make for a great way to meet new friends and discover new ski buddies. Shareholders usually become quite friendly with each other. It's common to have dinner together and to have a few laughs on the slopes.

Regardless of how you find your house partners, respect for others is paramount to having a good time by all.
